How to Cut 100 Calories a Day

Welcome to 2011, where you are probably trying to keep your New Year’s resolution alive this second week of January. If you are like many, you have decided to hit the “do over” button and start eating healthier while exercising more. Perhaps you indulged a little too often during the holidays and are looking for ideas on how to get back on track. Keep reading for suggestions on how to cut 100 calories out of your diet every day.

1. Skip the wine at dinner and go for sparkling water with lemon.
2. Eliminate your daily glass of juice.
3. Wrap your burger, sandwich meat, or turkey burger in large lettuce pieces instead of a bun.
4. Use one piece of toast with breakfast instead of your standard two pieces.
5. Swap out a daily bagel with an English muffin.
6. Try mustard instead of mayonnaise on your sandwich. Lose the cheese while you’re at it.
7. Switch to lean deli meat and vegetables on your sandwich instead of tuna fish/chicken salad with mayo.
8. If you have to have your tuna fish/chicken salad, place it on a bed of lettuce, not bread.
9. Sprinkle truvia (stevia replacement) on your oatmeal, cereal or fruit instead of sugar.
10. Skip the whip topping on your coffee…better yet, drink regular coffee with a splash of creamer.
11. Pile on the vegetables at dinner instead of a dinner roll or rice.
12. Drink one less soda per day – try green tea instead. Iced if you like it cold.
13. Trade out egg yolks for egg whites in your breakfast.
14. If you need dessert – try 3 Hershey’s kisses, 2 small peppermint patties, or a few Tootsie rolls.
15. Replace high fat, high calorie ice cream with sorbet.

Buy implementing these small changes, you can make a big impact on your waistline. Remember it takes about 3,200-3,500 calories to make a pound so please keep this in mind in your weight loss process. There is no magic weight loss pill but you can make little changes in your everyday diet to help achieve your health goals. Remember to drink a lot of water to flush out the fat, and exercise vigorously most days of the week. If your heart isn’t pounding, you’re not burning efficiently.
